About the teacher

Yungchen Lhamo

Yungchen Lhamo sings Tibetan Buddhist prayer, often with nothing behind the voice at all. She left Tibet on foot as a young woman and has lived in the United States for many years.

Her first album won the ARIA Award for Best World Music Album in 1995, after which Peter Gabriel's Real World label signed her. Whatever the setting — a festival stage or a temple — the material stays what it was: prayer, sung.
