Kojun Arai
Japanese Shingon priest of the Buzan branch who sings shōmyō, the liturgical chant of Japanese esoteric Buddhism. Shingon is one of its two great schools alongside Tendai, and its chant is sung in the temple as liturgy rather than performed.
He is one of the founders of Shōmyō-no-Kai, Voices of a Thousand Years, the ensemble that brings the chant of both schools to concert halls outside Japan and in which Shingon and Tendai singers appear together.
