Monk Inmook
Korean Buddhist monk of the Jogye order and a bearer of beompae, the centuries-old Korean Buddhist chant sung in classical Chinese and Sanskrit. Beompae is the voice of Yeongsanjae, the day-long ritual re-enacting the Buddha's sermon on Vulture Peak, which UNESCO added to its list of intangible heritage in 2009.
He works on the liturgy of his order and teaches the ritual music and dance that go with it, so that a chant which only exists while someone is singing it keeps being handed on.
