Mahesh Kale
The abhang is the verse of the Warkari, the people who walk each year to the temple of Vitthal at Pandharpur. Dnyaneshwar, Namdev, Janabai and Tukaram wrote in Marathi and for everyone, outside the languages and the settings that learning had claimed, and their lines are carried by the walking as much as by the singing.
He founded the Mahesh Kale School of Music in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2004, where he lives, and teaches there and online. He received the National Film Award for best male playback singer in 2015 for Katyar Kaljat Ghusali.
