Chinese-Malaysian composer, producer and singer who sets classical Buddhist chant, mantra and dharani in Sanskrit, Pali, Tibetan and Mandarin, with more than fifty albums to her name.
Imee Ooi composes and arranges classical Buddhist chant, mantra and dharani, and sings them herself. She works in Sanskrit, Pali, Tibetan and Mandarin, moving between the languages the texts were carried in.
She founded her own label, I.M.M. Musicworks, in 1997 to publish the work, and has released more than fifty albums since. The best known of them outside Buddhist circles is The Chant of Metta, the Pali loving-kindness discourse set to music.
