TEDxSunsetPark - Diana Winston - The Practice of Mindfulness
A TEDx talk introducing secular mindfulness practice for a general audience.
Mindfulness · Secular mindfulness
Director of UCLA Mindful, offering secular, clinically-oriented mindfulness instruction to a broad public audience.
Diana Winston trained in Buddhist meditation, including ordination in the Theravada tradition, before moving into secular mindfulness instruction as director of the Mindful Awareness Research Center at UCLA (UCLA Mindful). Her work translates contemplative technique into a clinical, evidence-informed frame accessible without a religious context.
She leads free weekly meditations at the Hammer Museum (also offered virtually), alongside new classes and retreats planned for 2026 through UCLA Health and a retreat with Spirit Rock.
“Most of us travel through life with heavy, bulky emotional baggage. To our great relief, with meditative practices and their healing modalities, we can shrink this baggage to carry-on size.”Diana Winston
