Indian dhrupad singer, born in New Delhi on 22 April 1968, who represents the twentieth unbroken generation of the Dagar family and its Dagarvani style. Dhrupad is the oldest surviving form of Hindustani classical singing: slow, unhurried, with each note given room before the next. It is art music rather than liturgy, but its roots are devotional and sound itself, nada, is treated as the practice.
He is the son of Nasir Faiyazuddin Dagar and the nephew of Nasir Zahiruddin Dagar, known together as the Junior Dagar Brothers. Because the family sang dhrupad as a duet, he carries both their voices into a single performance, presenting his father's style and his uncle's in one.
He received the Padma Shri in 2010 and has toured internationally since 2000.
