Indian devotional singer from Karnataka, born on 10 July 1952, who sings the Haridasa songs, the devotional poetry of saints such as Purandara Dasa, in Kannada, Sanskrit and Tulu, alongside Carnatic classical music. He was the pontiff of the Subrahmanya Matha in the Madhva tradition and in 1997 set the sanyasa aside to live as a singer.
He learned music as a boy from his father Govindacharya. His first album was Dasara Padagalu and his hundredth Tanu Ninnadu Jivana Ninnadu. He has sung for more than forty years and toured the United States in 1999.
He was given the title Sangeetha Vidya Nidhi in 1994 and an honorary doctorate by Hampi University, and wrote his memoir Nenape Sangeetha, Memory is Music, in Kannada.
