Bhai Baldeep Singh

Sikh musician, musicologist and instrument maker, born in 1969, who works to bring back classical Gurbani kirtan: the scriptures sung in the ragas laid down for them. He descends from Bhai Sadharan, a disciple of Guru Nanak, in a long line of GurSikh masters of the tradition, and rebuilds by hand the string instruments it needs.

Kirtan and mantra singer based in the Netherlands, who teaches in Zutphen and Wichmond. Her work sits where bhakti meets non-duality: chanting as devotion and as a way into silence rather than as performance, which she describes as a dance between knowing and not knowing, devotion and surrender, sound and stillness. Alongside kirtan she teaches non-dual yoga meditation, and she has released two albums, Bliss of Being and Cave of the Heart.

Indian dhrupad singer, born in Ujjain in 1966 and living and teaching in Pune, who trained with Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar and Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar in the guru-shishya tradition. Dhrupad is among the oldest forms of North Indian classical singing; it is not liturgy or kirtan, but its roots are devotional, and sound itself, nada, is held as a practice rather than a performance.
