About the teacher

Stephen Wright

Stephen Wright is a UK-based spiritual director and ordained interfaith minister who spent a long earlier career in nursing (becoming the first consultant nurse in the NHS in 1986) before turning to spiritual work; he holds a Fellowship of the Royal College of Nursing and an MBE. He co-founded the Sacred Space Foundation in Cumbria's Lake District and, working with the Diocese of Carlisle, helped establish the St Kentigern School and Community for Contemplatives; he is also a member of the ecumenical Iona Community and has written books including The Kentigern Way and Finding Your Heart Space.

Through the Sacred Space Foundation he offers retreats and one-to-one spiritual direction from its Lake District base, with a focus on renewal for people facing spiritual crisis or burnout. He periodically leads retreats elsewhere, such as with the Iona Community.

The opening of the heart, authentic spirituality, awakens you to the suffering of the world and enables you, strengthens you not to back away from it, but to hold it and embrace it and to continue working with it.
