Paban Das Baul
Bengali Baul singer born in 1961 in Murshidabad, West Bengal, trained among Sufi fakirs and initiated into the Baul tradition by Subal Das Baul. He is a master of the dubki, the small frame drum that drives Baul song, and his music holds together the tantric Buddhism, Vaishnavism and Sufism that meet in Baul mysticism. Recordings on Real World Records brought the tradition to listeners far outside Bengal.
