M.S. Subbulakshmi
Indian Carnatic vocalist (1916–2004) and the defining voice of South Indian devotional music in the twentieth century. She was the first musician to receive the Bharat Ratna, and her renderings of the Venkateswara Suprabhatam and the Bhaja Govindam are still heard daily in homes and temples across India and beyond.
