Manipuri guru, born on 15 January 1956 in Mayang Imphal, one of the few living holders of the Manipuri Nata Sankirtana: the Vaishnava temple singing for Krishna, carried with drum and dance, which UNESCO lists as intangible cultural heritage. He heads the Pala Loishang, the body of singers of the Shri Shri Govindajee temple in Imphal.
In 1994 he founded the Nata Sangeet Academy and Research Centre, and he has documented the tradition in a number of publications.
He received the Nata Ratna in 2015 and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2016.
