Swiss-Tibetan singer who sets traditional Tibetan Buddhist mantras and prayers in contemporary arrangements, among them a double album on Arya Tara.
Dechen Shak-Dagsay sings Tibetan Buddhist mantras and prayers, but not in the form they take in a monastery. She sets them in contemporary arrangements, which is what has carried them to listeners with no connection to the tradition.
She lives and works in Switzerland, tours internationally and performs regularly at the Tibet Museum in Gruyères. Her recent work includes a double album built around Arya Tara, the figure at the centre of much of what she sings.
