Mary Taylor
Mary Taylor began practicing yoga in 1971 and has developed a comprehensive approach combining Ashtanga Vinyasa asana with meditation and Buddhist teachings addressing the challenges of modern life. She serves as part of the core faculty for the Being with Dying program at Upaya Zen Center and as senior faculty for the UZIT training program, both integrating Buddhist and yoga practices into medical and wellness settings.
She teaches alongside her partner Richard Freeman, within the lineage of Krishnamacharya, Pattabhi Jois and B.K.S. Iyengar, emphasizing asking questions over providing answers and living the teachings shared with students.
“I see this as a time when the ashtanga lineage has an opportunity to evolve into one that is founded in truth rather than avoidance or denial, openness rather than tunnel vision, caring for others rather than putting ourselves first.”Mary Taylor
