Interview with Latri Khenpo Nyima Dakpa Rinpoche
A half-hour conversation from January 2021 on his life, his lineage and the Bön tradition outside Tibet.
About the teacher
Latri Nyima Dakpa Rinpoche
He received his early education in Kham, in eastern Tibet, where he is the lineage holder and abbot of Latri Monastery. His formal training was at the Bön Dialectic School of Menri Monastery in Dolanji, which awarded him the Geshe degree, the doctorate of Bön, in 1987.
Two years later he began teaching in the West, the first Tibetan Bön monk to do so in the United States. The Yeru Bön Center he founded has its home in Minneapolis, with a branch opened in Los Angeles in 2002, a retreat centre in rural Minnesota and a community in Asheville. He has also established Bön centres in Belarus, Poland, Ukraine, Russia and Canada. His yearly teaching schedule moves between those places and further afield, including Costa Rica and pilgrimage in Nepal.
He has written four books for Western students: Opening the Door to Bön, The Inner Mirror: A-tri Dzogchen, Khyung Mar: The Red Garuda, and Forty-Three Guiding Principles for an Enlightened Mind. He is president of the Bön Children's Home in India and oversees a stupa built for world peace at the Kungdrol Ling retreat centre in Thailand.
