Indian acharya of the Vallabh Sampradaya, the Pushtimarg tradition, and a Hindustani classical singer. He is an acknowledged expert of Haveli Sangeet, the temple music that has been sung for Krishna in the havelis for centuries, and of the padas that belong to it, alongside khayal, dhrupad, dhamar and prabandh gayaki.
Under the pen name MadhurPiya he has written more than five thousand compositions, in Sanskrit, Hindi, Braj Bhasha, Persian and Urdu. He has also shaped a manner of his own, Sarvang Sampurn Gayaki, drawing together elements of classical vocal music, and sings in long talas such as Brahma Taal of twenty-eight beats.
He has received the Padma Shri and the Padma Bhushan from the Government of India and the National Tansen Samman in December 2007, and he is a top grade artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan.
