Bhakti · Kirtan · Sound Journeys
Vocalist and multi-instrumentalist from New York State who leads kirtan and offers meditative sound journeys and live music for yoga and breathwork.
Angela Rae Hassan is a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist who plays guitar, zither and harmonium. She is known above all for leading kirtan, the bhakti practice of call and response chanting, which she carries with harmonium, acoustic guitar and rhythm. Alongside that she offers sound journeys, where voice, strings, percussion and subtle electronic texture are woven into one long ambient soundscape, and live music for yoga and breathwork classes.
She has more than a decade of experience and holds certifications in yoga, meditation and several energy healing modalities. Her work has taken her to very different rooms: young people, young adults, senior citizens, people in recovery, incarcerated people, and the general public. She has sung in the United States, Europe, India and Africa, and alongside Radhika Vekaria, Laraaji, Krishna Das and Nina Rao.
Her own description of what a gathering is for stays close to the practice itself: through repetition and melody, people are invited into presence, where joy and unity flow naturally.
