About the teacher

Burgs

Burgs conducted his first retreat in Asia in 1996 and has since led hundreds of retreats, from five days to five months, teaching thousands of students. He trained extensively in Jhana and samatha practice under Pa Auk Sayadaw in Burma, becoming the first Westerner to complete all forty samatha meditations described in the Visuddhimagga, and studied Dzogchen under H.H. Dodrupchen Rinpoche in Sikkim, India, alongside further study with Pak Merta Ada in Bali.

His teaching, offered through The Art of Meditation, moves from foundational concentration and mindfulness through to advanced consciousness states, with particular attention to the dynamic relationship between body and mind. He is the author of the autobiography Beyond The Veil and the two-volume The Flavour of Liberation.
