About the teacher

Seán ÓLaoire

Born in Cork, Ireland, into a family with both Catholic and Celtic spiritual roots, Seán Ó Laoire studied mathematics and mathematical physics before entering seminary and being ordained a Catholic priest. He spent 14 years as a missionary among the Kalenjin people in Kenya, then moved to California in 1987 and in 1997 co-founded Companions on the Journey, an interfaith spiritual community in the San Jose diocese, where he served as spiritual director. He also holds a PhD in transpersonal psychology.

Now in his late seventies, Ó Laoire stepped back from his role at Companions on the Journey at the end of 2025 but continues to teach through his own project, Spirits in Spacesuits, offering workshops, retreats and online teachings from his property near Healdsburg, California; no fixed public event calendar is currently posted, so dates should be confirmed directly.

A map is not the terrain. A cosmology is not reality. But we need maps to guide ourselves.
