About the teacher

Sadhvi Bhagawati Saraswati

Raised in Hollywood and trained as a psychologist at Stanford, Sadhvi Bhagawati Saraswati moved to Rishikesh, India nearly three decades ago and has since become one of the most visible teachers at Parmarth Niketan, one of India's largest ashrams, on the banks of the Ganga. She leads daily satsangs and chanting there, and is also Secretary-General of the Global Interfaith WASH Alliance and President of the Divine Shakti Foundation, connecting her spiritual teaching to sanitation and women's empowerment work. She is the author of Hollywood to the Himalayas and Come Home to Yourself, and has spoken at the UN, TED and the Parliament of World Religions.

She continues to teach from Parmarth Niketan and travels for retreats and festivals abroad; in 2026 this includes appearances at the World Yoga Festival in the UK, a joint retreat with Tommy Rosen at Kripalu in Massachusetts, and a retreat in Surrey, UK.

When I stood on the banks of the Ganga, it was like a veil was lifted from every aspect of me — how I saw, understood, and thought. For the first time, I was seeing the divine in everything, including myself.
