About the teacher

Rising Appalachia

Rising Appalachia was founded by the sisters Leah Song and Chloe Smith, who grew up in Atlanta. Their sound holds Southern folk and the music of New Orleans together with songs they have gathered elsewhere — Ireland, Bulgaria, Colombia — and they have released ten albums.

The touring band around them includes Duncan Wickel, David Brown and Biko Casini.

The album tilts towards our inner experiences. I wanted to write about love and how it expanded and broke open in new ways after I became a mother.
