About the teacher

Richard Freeman

Richard Freeman began practicing yoga in 1968 and spent nine years studying in Asia, training in yoga postures and breathing techniques alongside Sufism, Sanskrit and Indian philosophy. He studied with B.K.S. Iyengar and K. Pattabhi Jois, and has worked extensively with Buddhist instructors to explore connections between Buddhism and yoga practice.

He now teaches alongside his partner Mary Taylor, known for a metaphorical, humorous teaching style that draws students from many backgrounds. Their teaching integrates the internal rhythms of Ashtanga Vinyasa within the lineage of Krishnamacharya, Jois and Iyengar, complemented by ongoing study of Buddhism, Bhakti and philosophy.
