Swami Chidanand Saraswati left home as a child to live as a renunciant in the Himalayas and is president of Parmarth Niketan, an ashram on the banks of the Ganges in Rishikesh. The ashram holds a Ganga Aarti every evening and hosts yoga, meditation and spiritual programmes. He co-founded the Global Interfaith WASH Alliance, which brings religious leaders together on clean water and sanitation, and he teaches in English and Hindi.
