About the teacher

Phileena Heuertz

Phileena Heuertz co-founded Gravity, a Center for Contemplative Activism, which for a decade offered meditation, contemplative retreats, spiritual direction and Enneagram work before closing in 2022 so she could give individual seekers more of her direct attention. She is a trauma-informed spiritual director, trained over three years in the contemplative-evocative method within the Ignatian tradition, with additional training in Bio-Spiritual Focusing.

Her books include Pilgrimage of a Soul, a theological narrative set along the Camino de Santiago, and Mindful Silence, on the Christian contemplative tradition. Her teaching works to integrate head, heart and gut through both conceptual frameworks and embodied practice, and her guidance has appeared through the Center for Action and Contemplation's Conspire, Q Ideas, and The Work of the People.

I couldn't help but just stop and pause and consider, what would it be like if I had adopted similar spiritual practices [to those of Mother Teresa] that could really sustain my presence and my work in the world? And thus began this exploration really around the connection between contemplation and action.
