Fully initiated Xhosa sangoma (South African shamanic healer), author of "Leopard Warrior," known for blending traditional African ancestral healing and dreamwork with teaching for Western audiences.
John Lockley is a fully initiated sangoma in the Xhosa lineage of South Africa, trained over a ten-year apprenticeship under his teacher MaMngwevu and given the initiated name Ucingolwendaba. Before dedicating himself fully to sangoma practice he also studied Zen Buddhism under Su Bong in South Korea; he calls his synthesis of ancestral African practice "The Way of the Leopard," centered on dreamwork, ancestral healing, and nature-based ceremony.
Lockley currently divides his time between South Africa, Europe, and the United States, and remains highly active, offering a regular calendar of online courses, monthly webinars, Zoom mentoring, and in-person retreats and ceremonies internationally, including recurring retreats in South Africa, Ireland, and the Kalahari Desert.
“My journey is about reconciliation and part of my job is to help heal the past. When people are more connected with their own spirits, there is less of a desire to destroy or put down another.”John Lockley
