Ghada Shbeir is a Lebanese singer who works in two repertoires at once: Syriac and Maronite liturgical chant, and the Arab-Andalusian muwashshah. She holds a doctorate in music from the Université Saint-Esprit de Kaslik, where she teaches Oriental singing and directs the university's Oriental choir. Her album Al Muwashahat brought her the BBC Radio 3 Award for World Music in 2007 in the Middle East and North Africa category, ten years after she took first prize for Arab song at the World Festival of Arab Music in Cairo.
