About the teacher

Dean Sluyter

Dean Sluyter has taught what he calls "natural meditation" since 1970, describing himself as a student of sages across several traditions. He is the author of six books, including the award-winning Natural Meditation and The Dharma Bum's Guide to Western Literature, and for over three decades served as a volunteer dharma chaplain in New Jersey's state prison system; he is also a contributing writer for Tricycle: The Buddhist Review. His "Natural Meditation" approach, centered on effortless awareness, breath, sound and self-inquiry into the sense of "I," is endorsed by non-duality teacher Rupert Spira.

He now lives in Santa Monica, California, where he leads free guided Zoom meditations four times a week alongside occasional in-person sittings and weekend retreats.
