About the teacher
Bernardo Kastrup
Born in Brazil in 1974 and now a Dutch citizen based in the Netherlands, Bernardo Kastrup holds a PhD in computer engineering (Eindhoven University of Technology, specializing in AI) and a second PhD in philosophy (Radboud University Nijmegen, on ontology and philosophy of mind). Before turning to philosophy full-time he worked in the technology industry, including roles at CERN and Philips Research; he is the principal developer of "analytic idealism," a metaphysical framework holding that consciousness, not matter, is the ground of reality, and has written numerous books on the subject including Why Materialism Is Baloney and The Idea of the World.
Kastrup is executive director and main author for the Essentia Foundation, which publishes essays and interviews and offers a free, on-demand video course on analytic idealism with no live schedule. He regularly participates in public debates and panels hosted by third parties, though the foundation itself does not run a live events calendar.
