Yoga & Tantra · Silent monk · Ashtanga yoga
Indian yogi and silent monk (1923–2018), born in Almora and classically trained in the ashtanga yoga of Patanjali as well as kriya yoga, ayurveda, samkhya, tantra, Vedanta and Sanskrit. He took a vow of silence in 1952 and kept it for the rest of his life, teaching by writing instead: commentaries on the Yoga Sutras, the Bhagavad Gita, the Samkhyakarika and the Vedanta Panchadasi, alongside aphorisms, plays and children's stories. He founded Mount Madonna Center in California and the Sri Ram Ashram orphanage in India.
