Andrew Harvey

Born in 1952 in Coimbatore, India and educated at Oxford (where he became the youngest-ever fellow of All Souls College), Andrew Harvey left academia in the late 1970s after mystical experiences drew him back to India. Over the following decades he studied intensively across traditions, a decade immersed in Sufism and the work of Rumi in Paris under Eva de Vitray-Meyerovitch, plus Hindu, Tibetan Buddhist and Christian mystical teachers, and has authored more than thirty books on mystical and interfaith spirituality.

Since 2005 his work has centered on "Sacred Activism": the Institute for Sacred Activism, which he founded and directs, trains people to combine mystical practice with engaged action on social and ecological crises. He currently teaches through online courses, workshops, spiritual direction, and multi-day "sacred journey" pilgrimages to sites tied to Rumi and other mystical lineages; upcoming trips are listed at andrewharvey.net/events.
