Elias Amidon
Elias Amidon has been a Sufi Way initiate since 1970 and was appointed Pir (spiritual director) of the order in 2004; his root teacher was Pir-o-Murshid Fazal Inayat-Khan, connecting him to the Inayati Sufi lineage. Beyond Sufism he has studied with Qadiri Sufis in Morocco, Theravada teachers in Thailand, Native American teachers, Christian monks in Syria, and Zen practitioners. Before devoting himself fully to this teaching, he worked as a schoolteacher, carpenter, architect, professor and environmental educator, co-founding institutions including the Institute for Deep Ecology and the Environmental Leadership program at Naropa University.
He developed the Open Path, a teaching of nondual awareness within the Sufi Way tradition, and is the author of several books including The Open Path: Recognizing Nondual Awareness, Free Medicine: Meditations on Nondual Awareness, and Love's Drum. He continues to travel internationally teaching retreats and writes a monthly essay series, Notes from the Open Path.
