Adin Even-Israel Steinsaltz

Israeli rabbi, teacher and translator (1937–2020) who spent forty-five years putting the whole Babylonian Talmud into modern Hebrew with a running commentary, and then into English, French, Russian and Spanish. A Chabad Hasid and a writer on Jewish mysticism, he worked above all to make a closed text open to anyone willing to read it.
