Yosef Karduner
Yosef Karduner writes and sings in the Breslov Hasidic tradition, setting psalms and liturgical texts to melodies that travel far beyond the communities they come from. Shir LaMaalot, his setting of Psalm 121, appeared on his first album Road Marks in 2000 and has since been sung in synagogues, at weddings and around campfires by people with no connection to Breslov at all.
His music sits close to the niggun: a melody carried more than a lyric performed, often repeated until the words loosen.
