About the teacher

Simon Child

Simon Child holds the Dharma name Jing-hong Chuan-fa and received Dharma transmission in 2000, becoming the second Western Dharma heir of the late Chan Master Sheng Yen of Taiwan, following the Fellowship's founding teacher Dr. John Crook. The Dharma Drum lineage he teaches in draws on both Linji Chan (the root of Japanese Rinzai) and Caodong Chan (the root of Japanese Sōtō).

As Guiding Teacher, he oversees the Western Chan Fellowship's programme of retreats in the UK, including Zen Koan, Silent Illumination, and Western Zen retreats.
