About the teacher

Norman Fischer

Norman Fischer served as co-abbot of the San Francisco Zen Center before founding the Everyday Zen Foundation, through which he continues to teach a style of Zen practice deliberately woven into ordinary daily activity rather than confined to formal retreat settings. He is also a published poet, and his teaching often draws on close attention to language alongside zazen instruction.

He leads an ongoing programme of online seminars and dharma talks through the Everyday Zen Foundation, with a summer pause in July replaced by weekly discussion groups.

Zen practice has two parts - sitting down and getting up. When we sit down, we calm, clear and illuminate the mind. When we get up, we live our life in this world as an extension and expression of the beauty of our sitting.
