About the teacher

ShantiMayi

Born and raised in Ohio, USA, ShantiMayi became the first Western woman to carry the grace of the Sacha lineage, a line of Indian teachers said to trace back to Sri Katcha Babaji near Varanasi in the late 1800s. She spent 23 years alongside her teacher Sri Hansraj Maharajji at the Sacha Dham ashram in Laxmanjhula, Rishikesh, and became keeper of the lineage after his death in 2011. Her teaching drew on Hindu, Christian, Buddhist and indigenous influences, though she described herself as not religious.

ShantiMayi died on February 16, 2025. Sacha Dham ashram in India and Terre de Sacha, her retreat sanctuary in the French Pyrenees, continue under her sangha, with archived recordings of her satsang teachings available online.
