Kashmir Shaivism · Tantra & Dzogchen
American teacher and spiritual director of Jaya Kula in Portland, Oregon, known for teaching the non-monastic Trika Shaivism (Kashmir Shaivism) tantra tradition alongside Dzogchen.
Shambhavi's main training is in Trika Shaivism (Kashmir/Shaiva Tantra) and the Dzogchen tradition of Tibet, with additional meditation study in the Kagyu and Nyingma schools; her root guru is Anandamayi Ma. She has more than forty years of daily personal practice and meditation retreats, left a teaching position at Northwestern University in 2004 to devote herself fully to spiritual practice and teaching, and is also trained as a jyotishi (Vedic astrologer) and diviner.
She leads Jaya Kula, a non-profit community in Portland, Oregon, offering weekly satsang and kirtan on Sundays, a weekly podcast "Satsang with Shambhavi," and several annual retreats (livestreamed) at Matrika House in Portland, including a Guru Purnima retreat in July and a fall retreat in October.
“The direct realization traditions, such as Trika Shaivism and Dzogchen, offer us practical tools to discover utter naturalness, lightness of being, unconditional kindness, and freedom of expression.”Shambhavi Sarasvati
