Paulina Magus

She has been dedicated to Indian classical music since 2010, studying in India with teachers in both the Carnatic and the Dhrupad traditions. She has sung since the age of five, beginning with jazz and contemporary music, and her practice now moves between Indian classical and Sufi traditions, ambient music, post-rock and intuitive vocal expression.

Her teaching is her own approach to opening the voice. It works with raga, traditional vocal technique, improvisation, breath, resonance and deep listening, and the aim is not vocal mastery but entering the music deeply enough that sound becomes a way of meeting one's own emotional landscape. She shares it through courses, workshops and vocal intensives.

Since 2020 she has also been immersed in qawwali, the Sufi devotional music of the Indian subcontinent, which she performs with voice and harmonium in the traditional style.

Her own compositions sit between that training and ambient and experimental music. She layers intricate melodic lines over hypnotic drones, spacious harmonium, silence and long textures, and calls the result immersive Ambient Meditations: pieces built to be entered rather than listened to from outside.
