About the teacher
Taigen Dan Leighton
Born in Pittsburgh in 1950, Taigen Dan Leighton began Zen practice in 1975, ordained as a priest in 1986 under Reb Anderson, and received Dharma transmission in 2000. He lived in Japan from 1990 to 1992 translating Dogen's writings with Shohaku Okumura.
He relocated to Chicago in 2007 to serve as Guiding Dharma Teacher of Ancient Dragon Zen Gate, now serving as its Emeritus Guiding Teacher while continuing to offer occasional dharma talks. He has taught at multiple universities and published roughly 25 books on Zen Buddhism, Dogen studies, and environmental ethics.
