The Path of Interconnectedness · Songwriting and Voice Work
British-Portuguese songwriter from Guernsey whose songs walk into difficulty rather than above it, and who leads Vocal Odyssey, a retreat process in which the voice becomes a way of knowing yourself.
Nessi Gomes was born on the island of Guernsey, of British and Portuguese parentage, and writes songs that do not try to lift you above your life so much as walk you into it. Beauty sits beside fear in them; longing is not asked to resolve. She has said she writes to know herself and sings to stay honest, and that music became the place where she could exist on her own terms after years of feeling caught between two cultures and at home in neither.
Her debut album Diamonds & Demons opened the door, and she has since played internationally in rooms large and small. The Guardian called it hauntingly atmospheric; she is now writing a second record, leaning further into shadow and tenderness.
Alongside the music she leads Vocal Odyssey, and this is the other half of her work. It is a retreat process built around the voice as an instrument of self-inquiry rather than performance — warm-ups and breath used to soften rather than to train, ritual to mark the threshold, and singing approached less as how you sound than as how you listen. Many people, she notes, carry beliefs about their own voice laid down in childhood or by schooling. The work is about reclaiming what was always yours.
Vocal Odyssey runs as multi-day retreats and shorter workshops, from Amorgos in Greece to Guernsey itself.
