About the teacher

Lama Lena

Lama Lena (Yeshe Kaytup) began studying with Lama Thubten Yeshe in Nepal in 1972, an early encounter that set her on a path of formal Tibetan Buddhist training. She went on to spend seven years in solitary retreat in a cave above Tso Pema, India, under the guidance of her root teacher Wangdor Rinpoche, who held lineages in both the Nyingma and Kagyu schools, a dual transmission she now carries and teaches herself.

Her teaching is presented as 'Direct Mind Perception meditation,' drawing on both Dzogchen (Nyingma) and Mahāmudrā (Kagyu) pointing-out instructions, delivered in a style students often describe as precise, direct and humorous. She continues to teach both online and in person, dividing her time between New Orleans and Tso Pema.
