Indian yogi (1828–1895) credited with reviving Kriya Yoga in the modern era; guru of Sri Yukteswar and grand-guru of Paramahansa Yogananda, who introduced his lineage to the West.
Lahiri Mahasaya was a householder yogi in Varanasi credited, according to his lineage's account, with reviving Kriya Yoga after receiving the practice from Mahavatar Babaji. He taught while continuing an ordinary working life, initiating disciples from many backgrounds. His student Sri Yukteswar Giri in turn taught Paramahansa Yogananda, whose Autobiography of a Yogi introduced this Kriya Yoga lineage to a wide Western audience.
