Ghalia Benali
Tunisian-Belgian singer, born in Brussels on 21 December 1968 and raised partly in Zarzis on the Tunisian coast. She sings centuries-old Sufi poetry, among it the verses of the eighth-century mystic Rabia al-Adawiyya, alongside contemporary Arabic writing, and moves between the two without treating either as a museum piece.
Her records include Romeo & Leila (2006) and Al Palna. She was a finalist for the Aga Khan Music Awards in 2025.
