Brazilian singer of the Tikuna, who call themselves Magüta, born in 1984 in the village of Umariaçu II near Tabatinga in Amazonas. She sings only in Tikuna, the language of her people, who live on the upper Solimões where Brazil, Peru and Colombia meet. In 2017 she was the first Indigenous person to stage a musical performance at the Teatro Amazonas in Manaus, in the theatre's 121st year, and released the album Tchautchiüãne there.
She is also a journalist, the first Indigenous woman to qualify as one in Amazonas, and she works for Indigenous rights. In 2016 she sang the Brazilian national anthem in Tikuna at the opening of the Olympic Games in Rio, and sang it again in 2023 in the National Congress in Brasília.
Her second album, Wiyaegü, came out in 2019 and took her to Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels and Vienna. In August 2022 she presented Torü Wiyaegü at the Teatro Amazonas: a book, an album and a short film about her people. In 2023 she sang in the concert We Are the Forest with the orchestra of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, in Manaus and then in the United States.
