Divna Ljubojević

Christian mysticism · Orthodox Sacred Chant

Serbian singer and conductor of Orthodox sacred music, born in 1970 in Belgrade. From the age of ten she was taught to sing by the sisters of the Vavedenje monastery near Belgrade, where she developed a style of her own out of the Karlovci chant tradition. She studied at the Mokranjac Music School and graduated from the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad. In 1991 she founded Melodi, a choir and studio for spiritual music, which she conducts as its artistic director.

About the artist

Divna Ljubojević

She began conducting the Mokranjac choir in 1988, at eighteen, and between 1989 and 1991 led the First Belgrade Singing Society, founded in 1853, as the youngest conductor in its history. She has taught church and choral singing in France, the Netherlands and England.

With Melodi she sings Byzantine, Serbian and Russian Orthodox liturgical chant. The ensemble has given more than six hundred concerts, mostly in eastern and western Europe, and has recorded both for the Vavedenje monastery and internationally.
