About the teacher
Chelan Harkin
Raised in the Baha'i faith in Hood River, Oregon, Chelan Harkin began writing the poetry that flows through her spontaneously following a mystical experience at age 21; her free-verse, devotional style is often compared to Hafiz and Rumi, and she cites Daniel Ladinsky, the well-known translator of Hafiz, as a key inspiration. She published two collections in 2021, Susceptible to Light and Let Us Dance: The Stumble and Whirl with the Beloved.
She lives in the Columbia River Gorge area and currently teaches through The Poetry Chapel, a ten-week course for aspiring poets, alongside occasional workshops with local partners and appearances hosted by third parties such as Topa Institute and MoonMountain.
