American clinical psychologist who directs the Center for Mindfulness at UC San Diego and researches imagination, mind-body medicine and spirituality in mental health.
Vieten is a Clinical Professor at UC San Diego's Centers for Integrative Health and Director of Research at the university's Arthur C. Clarke Center for Human Imagination. She co-chaired an American Psychological Association task force on integrating spirituality and religion into psychotherapy, and her research spans complementary health training, psychedelic-assisted therapy, and virtual reality for perspective-taking.
She speaks and writes widely, including the book Imagine That, and periodically teaches multi-day workshops at Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California; her Esalen faculty page is the most reliable source for upcoming dates.
