About the teacher

Christopher Titmuss

Christopher Titmuss trained as a Theravada monk before co-founding Gaia House, one of the most significant Insight Meditation retreat centres in Europe, and has taught internationally for decades since. His teaching often connects meditation directly with social and political engagement, reflecting a career-long interest in Buddhism applied beyond the cushion.

Now in his eighties, his current teaching runs mainly online through SanghaLive sessions and days of practice, with a new book, Questioning of Views, due in May 2026; his once-central annual Bodh Gaya retreat is now led by colleague Radha Nicholson rather than by him directly.

When we make mindfulness central to the whole practice of the Buddha-Dharma we are in danger of watering down the teachings to a particular quality of mind – called mindfulness.
