About the teacher
Ajahn Amaro
Ajahn Amaro trained in the Thai Forest tradition under Ajahn Chah and co-founded Amaravati Buddhist Monastery in England, where he now serves as abbot, teaching formal Theravada monastic practice offered entirely free, on a dana (generosity) basis. His teaching pairs classical forest-tradition rigor with a calm, approachable public voice.
Having returned in April 2026 from a year-long sabbatical, he has resumed weekly dhamma talks at Amaravati, including a Vesak celebration on 31 May 2026, alongside retreats through the Amaravati Retreat Centre and a large free audio archive and podcast.
